Baptist Medical Center South Towers & Courtyards

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Client: Baptist Health

Project Scope: Landscape Architecture

Architect: Gresham Smith & Partners, Inc

Project Size: 1.3 acres

Project Description & Challenge

Renovating an existing courtyard at the primary building entrance of this expanding medical complex provides the first impression for visitors, patients, and staff. Additionally, Baptist Medical Center tasked Marquis Latimer + Halback, Inc. with the creation of new arrival sequences and therapeutic gardens oriented between new medical towers.

Solution

The revitalized courtyard becomes a gathering space for visitors, patients, and medical staff. The courtyard serves as a ‘welcome mat’ as visitors enter through the main entrance of the medical campus. The new courtyard provides a quiet space where patients and their families can come to relax within a controlled, yet welcoming space. In addition, the entirety of the entry access drive was redesigned, creating a more cohesive landscape aesthetic, with towering palms, lush understory plantings, and manicured lawns surrounding each of the entries.
