Project Description & Challenge

Marquis Latimer + Halback, Inc. produced the “Historic Downtown Streetscape Guidelines” for the city of St. Augustine. These guidelines were adopted and implemented as part of the Downtown Improvements District; a $2.8 million streetscape project for Spanish Street, Hypolita Street, and Treasury Street. The improvements include full replacement of underground sewer and water lines, new cable and electric conduit, new gas lines, and a new stormwater drainage system seamlessly integrated into the brick streets above.

Solution

Utilizing ‘complete streets’ techniques, ML+H designed new brick streets, flush curbs, coquina concrete sidewalks, street lights, street trees and other historic elements into ‘pedestrian friendly’ connectors that has enhanced and organized mobility in the historic downtown core.
