Project Description & Challenge

In preparation for the 450th anniversary of the Nation’s Oldest City, and funded by the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit in Parks Grant, Marquis Latimer + Halback, Inc. provided planning and design services to improve the visitor connections to the historic Castillo de San Marcos, Downtown, and Bayfront. Leading an unprecedented public participation program, including public meetings, surveys, and a heavily visited project website, a multi-phased implementation strategy was developed and implemented.

Solution

Significant consensus building and coordination with the City, FDOT, FTA, and the National Park Service has resulted in grant support for planning and implementation. Projects resulting from these endeavors include: Waterfront Promenade & SRA1A Transportation Management Plan, Historic Downtown Streetscape Guidelines, Event Transit Plan, Historic Downtown Parking & Circulation Plan, and the Orange Street Streetscape / Cubo Line Extension Improvements.
