St. Ambrose Catholic Church Master Plan

Location: Elkton, Florida

Client: St. Ambrose Catholic Church

Project Scope: Master Planning
Landscape Architecture

Project Size: 40 acres

Project Description & Challenge

The story of the St. Ambrose Parish extends back to the early 1800s, and those early members’ roots in Florida extended even further back to the Minorcan community that settled in St. Augustine in the 1,700s. Construction of the current church building was completed in 1907, and it has served a growing community since. From 2000 and 2010 alone, the parish experienced a 30 percent increase in membership, demonstrating the need for a long range master plan.

Solution

Marquis Latimer + Halback, Inc. worked with St. Ambrose Catholic Church to develop a five-phase master plan that responds to the growth of the parish but protects the historical character of the church, as well. The master plan provides improved site circulation and access, additional parking and landscaped areas, a new parish hall, and a new elementary and middle school campus.
