Project Description + Challenge

An Educational Eco-Community

University of Florida/Whitney Laboratory, located in the oceanside Town of Marineland, utilizes marine animals for state-of-the-art biomedical and biotechnology research. Marquis Latimer + Halback, Inc., as prime consultant, is developing a new ‘research village, which is designed to offer visiting professors, graduate students, and small conferences on-site housing in a series of cottages.

Our Solution

The design showcases the best of sustainably resilient site and architectural design, influenced by Florida vernacular architecture and the striking views of the Intracoastal Waterway. Intermixed in the cottages are a series of outdoor learning environments, which provide group and private study areas, along with areas for relaxation and contemplation.
